The first of a series of three lectures, given by art historian Giovanni Aloi, culminating in a guided tour of the Italian works of the Art Institute of Chicago. This series of talks maps the fundamental themes and landmark moments of the influential history of Italian landscape painting, from medieval to contemporary art.

From the stylized forms of medieval art and the lush backdrops of Renaissance painting to the critical approaches of contemporary artists driven by environmental concerns, this lecture looks at one of
the most important symbolic spaces in the history of
Italian landscape.

Free and open to the public.
