The Life and Times of Renowned Psychiatrist Silvano Arieti

A lecture by David Arieti about the life of his father, Silvano Arieti, one of the world’s most prominent psychiatrists of the '60s and '70s. He received his medical degree in Pisa in 1936. When he was forced to leave Italy due to racial laws, he sought refuge in the United States and went on to become one of the foremost authorities on schizophrenia. He was the editor of "The American Handbook of Psychiatry" and author of eleven  books, one of which won the 1975 National Book Award for science.   An Italian commemorative stamp featuring Silvano Arieti was  issued last year to mark the 100th anniversary of his birth, one of only four stamps in the world dedicated to a psychiatrist.Free and open to the public.
